چکیده

Abstract. The California Pacific coast is characterized by considerable wind resource and areas of dense population, propelling interest in offshore energy as the United States moves toward a sustainable decarbonized future. Reanalysis models continue to serve community multitude ways, need for validation locations where observations have been historically limited, such environments, strong. U.S. Department Energy (DOE) owns two lidar buoys that collect speed across turbine rotor layer along with meteorological oceanographic data near surface characterize resource. Lidar buoy collected from recent deployments off northern Humboldt County central Morro Bay allow commonly used reanalysis products. In this article, speeds Modern-Era Retrospective analysis Research Applications version 2 (MERRA-2), Climate Forecast System (CFSv2), North American Regional (NARR), European Centre Medium-Range Weather Forecasts 5 (ERA5), system Rapid Refresh (RAP) are validated at heights within ranging 50 100 m. results offer guidance on performance uncertainty associated utilizing reanalyses characterization, providing information conditions lead error. At both locations, tend underestimate observed rotor-level Occasions large error occur conjunction stable atmospheric conditions, peak power production (> 10 m s?1), mischaracterization diurnal cycle summer months.

Damping of Wind Turbine Tower Oscillations through Rotor Speed Control

To enable wind turbines to produce power under great variety of wind conditions a sophisticated control system is needed. Wind turbine system is highly nonlinear and its dynamic changes rapidly with the change of wind speed. Besides this, wind turbine mechanical structure is very flexible due to its great height and tends to oscillate. All this makes the design of wind turbine control system ve...

Trends in Wind Speed at Wind Turbine Height of 80 m over the Contiguous United States Using the North American Regional Reanalysis (NARR)

The trends in wind speed at a typical wind turbine hub height (80 m) are analyzed using the North American Regional Reanalysis (NARR) dataset for 1979–2009. A method, assuming the wind profile in the lower boundary layer as power-law functions of altitude, is developed to invert the power exponent (in the power-law equation) from theNARRdata and to compute the following variables at 80 m that a...

Evaluation of Turbulence on the Dynamics of Monopile Offshore Wind Turbine under the Wave and Wind Excitations

In recent years, the use of offshore wind turbines has been considered on the agenda of the countries which have a significant maritime boundary due to more speed and stability of wind at sea. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of wind turbulence on the aero-hydrodynamic behavior of offshore wind turbines with a monopile platform. Since in the sea, the wind turbine structures ar...
